Finding our facilities

Our facilities are split over three sites, our two indoor sites are in a Central Campus location, with our outdoor site a short journey away. If you're in the library, pop over, have a workout and re-energise your brain ready to study again.

Ravelin Sports Centre - Opening soon

Ravelin Sports Centre, the newest of our facilities is due to open soon. An outstanding new £57m sports centre opening later this year for you to play, train and compete. Our superb facilities set in historic parkland include a 25m eight-lane swimming pool, 175 station fitness suite, climbing wall, ski simulator, double sports halls, Starbucks café and community orchard. 

Designed to the highest sustainability credentials for Sports Centres in the UK, this facility is aiming to be net zero carbon ready and has received a top rating of ‘Outstanding’ from BREEAM UK, the world’s leading sustainability assessment for buildings. The building will utilise renewable sources of energy from roof solar panels and internal heat recovery systems. Pool water is re-used for toilet flushing and a new community orchard is part of a sustainable drainage system. Rooftop beehives and a wildflower amphitheatre events space will develop biodiversity in the surrounding areas.

Ravelin Sports Centre Starbucks

The Starbucks coffee outlet inside Ravelin sports Centre reception will serve students, staff and sport centre visitors.

We have a healthy offering, including super salads, fruit pots, a juice bar and smoothies. Plus all the standard beverages, snacks and cold drinks you would expect from Starbucks. The cafe will also include vending options for those in a hurry, and the outlet will be completely plastic free, a first on campus.

Opening times: Monday-Friday, 7.30am-8.30pm; Saturday-Sunday, 9.00am-6.30pm.

St. Paul's Gym

The historic St. Paul's Gym is right in the heart of the campus. At most, a 10 minute walk from all halls and university buildings, your warm up and cool down is sorted. A quirky four floor gym has all the kit you'll need to get active and stay healthy while in Portsmouth. With a four-court sports hall in tow as well, we've got all your needs covered for badminton, futsal, basketball, netball and volleyball. Why not book yourself in for a game of badminton with some mates?

Spinnaker Sports Centre

A stone's throw away from St. Paul's Gym, Spinnaker Sports sits opposite the Students' Union on Cambridge Road. With two large studios that host a range of activities from our fantastic taught fitness classes, to our virtual classes and club training sessions. Get yourself booked in to a class and get fit in a friendly social group.

Langstone Sports Site

Set on the picturesque Langstone Harbour, Langstone Sports Site hosts training and matches for our sports clubs. We have a FIFA and RFU accredited full size 3G pitch, a full size FIH accredited sand based Hockey Pitch, Netball courts, 5 a-side cages, Tennis courts as well a multitude of grass pitches ranging from 5 to 11 a-side football pitches and two rugby pitches.

Travel

There are many ways to find us, from our central campus locations at St. Paul’s and Spinnaker Sports Centre to our outdoor site across the city. We get that travel can be tricky to Langstone, so why not keep things easy and use our Sports Bus. The Sports Bus is FREE to use for students, you’ll just need your student card to get on. The Sports Bus runs Monday-Tuesday with an extended timetable on Wednesdays for BUCS games. Take advantage, get your friends along to support you, show your #PurplePassion and get behind #TeamUOP.

For general travel around the city, including the student bus running throughout the week, please visit the Students' Union travel guide. Please note if you decide to get on the regular university bus, you’ll need to get off at the Prince Albert Road bus stop and walk down Locksway Road, Langstone Sports Site is about a 15-20 minute walk from the bus stop.
