Career enhancing opportunities

Discover how you could be our next intern and deliver sessions to our sports clubs

We get how it is when you go into the real world. You can't get a job without experience, and you can't get experience without a job. We're always looking at ways to get more students involved in sport. The opportunities are endless and often you can control your destiny. We have a range of opportunities across sport as a whole, often leading to the destination of choice. If you're passionate and have the skills, we can even develop an opportunity together. With the focus on employability and transferable skills, you'll often get out more than you'll put in.

Strength and conditioning

Our strength and conditioning interns, juniors and coaches deliver sessions to our sports scholars and our sports clubs while learning practical skills. Strength and conditioning plays an integral part to the success of an athlete or team, it's more than just fitness. Our coaches plan, deliver and review the physical and physiological preparation of athletes aligned to specific sports performance outcomes. There are a number of roles and opportunities across our sport scholars program and our 36 sports clubs, of which many have multiple teams.

Interns and placements

Our internships and placements are an ideal solution to help with your experience and employability. Each year we have students from the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science on academic placements with us, offering project support on a number of key sports projects. Projects can include; Sports Strategy planning, Varsity, Sports Awards, marketing and communications, sports team performance analysis, sport psychology and community schools outreach programmes. Previous interns have delivered a Dance off and Cheer off event. 19 schools were involved, with 295 students taking part, working with 43 student coaches. I’m grateful for the opportunity to intern with Sport and Recreation. The enthusiasm and support made it a pleasure to work together. You trusted me to deliver previously successful key events to local school children, it was amazing. I was so proud of what we’ve achieved, the kids and parents involved loved it. Working with over 40 student coaches was a challenge at times, but so rewarding. I appreciate the role you played in helping me become more confident and experienced. Thank you so much.

Esther, Sports Development Intern

I enjoy challenging myself, by working with a variety of athletes it fulfills that challenge and rewards me. I work independently, educating myself, researching what’s essential and the role gives me opportunities to enhance my knowledge. I couldn’t recommend it enough. I feel incredibly motivated and I’m even better equipped to explore the subject further. There’s no better feeling than making progress. It’s the perfect platform to build experience, it’s incredibly flexible around university studies and you will likely make some great friends, just like I did!
