Gather your colleagues and join us for another Staff Sports Day!
After a fantastic return last year, Staff Sports Day is back on Friday 26 June, and this time we're taking it to Gunhouse Green. If you missed it in 2025, now's your chance. If you were there, you'll know exactly why you shouldn't miss it again.
Staff are encouraged to compete or support colleagues and get involved in the day however they can. As long as the minimum business needs of the department are met, and based on the approval of your line manager UEB members are encouraging as many staff as possible to be involved in the day, either taking part or spectating and supporting your colleagues.
We are also organising a social event as part of Staff Sports Day, where food and drink will be served. We would love as many colleagues as possible to attend, even as spectators. Join in, network and socialise with colleagues after Staff Sports Day. Please join us, and encourage your colleagues to do so and let's make a day of it!
What is Staff Sports Day?
Think classic school Sports Day - Egg and Spoon, Sack Race, Three-Legged Race, Bean Bags and more - but with your colleagues. Teams of 8-12 go head-to-head from across the university in a fun, inclusive afternoon that's less about winning and more about getting outside, having a laugh and meeting people you wouldn't normally see.
We’re looking for 18 teams to join us in Gun House Green, so if you have a massive department, enter more than one team. If there are more applications for teams than places available, we will aim to ensure there is a fair mix of departments and services represented.
We want everyone to have the opportunity to participate and ensure that our Sports Day is inclusive. We'll have several activities that everyone can participate in, with the chance to win individual prizes.
The event runs from 12.15pm to 4.30pm, and as long as minimum business needs are covered and your line manager is on board, everyone is welcome - whether you're competing or just coming along to cheer.

Helping out on the day
If you would like to be involved on the day, but don’t want to take part, we’d love to have you involved in the day. We’re looking for marshals and activity leads to help out on the day. You will be fully briefed beforehand and provided with all you need. If you would like to be involved, please email sport-events@port.ac.uk.
Staff Social Event
Staff Summer Social will be on Friday 26 June in Ravelin Park/Gun House Green following the Staff Sports Day.
It is a fantastic opportunity to get together and socialise with colleagues in an informal setting. This event is for all colleagues, not just those taking part in the sports activities.
It is intended to be an informal event for staff to socialise after the Sports Day and make use of the Park - so bring your own picnic blankets and, where appropriate, your picnic chairs if you wish.
Signing up for the social
To support us with catering numbers, please can you let us know if you will be attending by signing up through Eventbrite. If you are attending the Sports Day and plan to stay on for the social, you’ll still need to register on Eventbrite. Please bring your staff cards in order to meet licensing rules and claim your free refreshments.
