We’re launching our survey on Monday 1 December, share your thoughts, shape our services.
Our survey is launching on Monday 1 December and will be running until Sunday 14 December. By completing our survey you’ll help shape Ravelin Sports Centre and Langstone Sports Site for the next 12-15 months.
You may be thinking, ‘I did one of these surveys in May’ and you’d be right. We are changing the timing of our survey to take place between November and December each year. We found that conducting it later in the academic year gave us less time to implement some of the fantastic insights and suggestions that came out of the results.
The survey will be open for two weeks. We have shortened it this year based on feedback. It will only take you between 5-10 minutes to complete.
We have already made changes based on the last survey over the last 6 months, including:
-
Delivering additional courses, such as ladies' weightlifting and nutrition courses
-
Installed new lifting platforms and fixed the flooring, with £110k spent on better functioning equipment
-
Upgraded booking and joining system
-
Achieved Quest accreditation to provide you with the confidence that the facilities are being run in line with best practice nationally
-
Working closely with our Estates and Campus services team to improve maintenance issues
-
We have sought additional digital fitness access for members (launching in January)
-
Reduced the question set from our last survey to make it shorter

Who is the survey for?
The Sport and Recreation survey is designed to be completed by any of the following:
-
Members, users and pay-as-you-go users of our facilities
-
Students and staff at the university
-
Non-members and those in the local area
In short, anyone who uses our facilities, may use our facilities or is studying or employed by the university. It’s a really good way to ensure our services are delivered appropriately for each group.
Ways to complete the survey
We are really keen to get as many people to complete the survey as possible, whether you are a member or not. We will email all members, and if you access on a pay-as-you-go basis, we’ll email you too.
You’ll be able to scan the QR code on the digital screens, from posters in Ravelin Sports Centre and through our website. You’ll also be able to access the survey through our mobile app, and you’ll get a pop-up each time you open the app for the first week. To remove this, press the ‘X’ in the top corner.
Our survey is really important for us to gauge how you, as customers and users, are feeling about our services and facilities. Our staff are all here to help in any way we can, and we want to find out your expectations and suggestions about how we can improve. We’re committed to delivering the best possible experience, and your feedback is essential in helping us achieve that. By sharing your thoughts in our survey, you’re shaping the future of our services and facilities.
Every response is carefully reviewed and actively used to guide improvements and introduce new offerings. This isn’t just a survey—it’s your opportunity to tell us what works, what could be better, and what you’d love to see next. We actively use the results of our surveys to launch new services, and this time round will be no different. Without the valuable insight of customers to constructively inform us how we’re doing, we’re unlikely to meet your needs. Which is exactly what we all want to do.
Why we conduct our survey
We use our survey to get a general feeling of what you think about the services and facilities we offer. We use the results to give a balanced view on whether there is anything you are missing, any areas we need to improve in and how we can help you have a better experience with us. We want to continuously improve, and our staff are here to make your experience better. If we’re missing the mark or hitting it, we want to know. The survey also helps us discover areas we need to invest further in or lobby for further improvements across the university and in Portsmouth.
We compare the results with national scores to see if our members, students and staff are meeting, exceeding or slightly lower than national benchmarks. We also ask about your thoughts and feelings about life in general to give a marker of wellbeing.
Take the survey – win £200
Don’t miss out, our survey closes Sunday 14 December. Mobile or laptop it should only take 5-10 minutes.
