After a year of restrictions, lockdowns and constantly changing guidelines, sport has been anything but simple this year. The academic year started with the hope that sport may be relatively normal with many sports able to continue with a number of safety measures in place. Each club did a fantastic job in managing these often numerous guidelines to keep club members safe at sessions when they were able to go ahead.

Collectively Team UOP delivered some fantastic sporting activities and opportunities for club members under difficult circumstances. The passion, excitement and responsibility taken on by clubs to ensure activities continued and sporting opportunities were provided were great to see. In a year where sporting activity has been minimal due to the pandemic, Team UOP turned their attention to RAG (raising and giving) through campaigns including Move 4 Movember, Comic Relief, Cancer Research and Samaritans. The fantastic effort by the Team UOP sports clubs helped raise £37,015 for charity, while also encouraging people to get involved in physical activity through using their daily exercise to help raise money for charity.

Additionally, identifying that Team UOP have the ability to help, a number of clubs and individuals reached out to the local community through voluntary work at the food bank, donating to the food bank and using their free time to carry out beach cleans whilst out on regular exercise routines.

Tuesday 6 July saw Sport and Recreation celebrate our Annual Sports Awards, recognising and rewarding our 36 student sports clubs 'Team UOP' for their hard work and commitment over the last academic year.

Our awards are split between individual categories and team/club categories which cover all aspects of our sporting offer. Categories include Contribution to the Community, RAG (Raising and Giving) Club of the Year, Colours for individual contribution to their club and Outstanding Contribution to University Sport.
