

Bookings for the gym restarting 9 September
Back in April, we trialled the removal of gym bookings while we searched for a better solution to managing access to the gym. While we have made some progress, we haven’t been able to find the right solution to fix the issues. We have been looking for a solution that informs you (and us) how many people are in the gym, and provides access based on safe usage limits.
In the early stages of the trial (when our facilities were a little busier), customers were not able to determine if the facilities were quiet or busy. As a result, we had a one-in-one-out system in place that you couldn’t have known about before arriving.
Ahead of the start of term and the return of students to the facilities, we are reinstating the gym booking system.
What exactly are the changes?
From Tuesday 9 September, gym bookings will return. You will need to book a gym session (either 60 minutes or 90 minutes) before entry will be permitted via the UOP Sport App or reception. The Gym bookings tile within the app will allow you to select your session on the day you wish to attend the gym. Bookings will be available from midnight each day, and a maximum of two daily bookings will be allowed.
Why are the changes coming in?
We have a capacity in the gym - this is to both create a comfortable training environment and also for safety reasons, such as fire escape capacity, risks and hazards created by the sheer amount of people in it. To safely manage capacities, the booking system will prevent any users without a booking from entering.
If the gym reaches capacity and you don’t have a booking, you will not be permitted entry, even if you see the bit of kit you want to use is free. Please be respectful to our staff during this process, we want you to get into the gym but we need to ensure the safety of our users and the facility. As per our terms and conditions, your membership does not guarantee access to our facilities and services but is based on availability and the requirement to book (as in every other activity in the facility). We would like to remind you of the UOP Sport Charter and encourage you to ensure behaviours are aligned with this.
What do I need to do?
If you haven’t done so already, download the UOP Sport Mobile App and log in using your membership credentials. Bookings will only be available via the app or via reception.
From Tuesday 9 September, book your gym session before attending. If you arrive without a booking, on the basis that there is availability, you can book on arrival - but you will need to book a space before entering the gym.

What if I change my mind and don’t want my booking?
If you cannot make your gym session anymore, you can cancel your booking through the UOP Sport mobile app or via reception. Cancelling will free up a space for another person.
