We’re removing the bookings temporarily

Gym bookings have been a frustration for a while, with us receiving comments and complaints frequently. The booking system was put in place to deliver a better customer experience for users, but it hasn’t always delivered that experience. We’ve tweaked, changed and adapted the booking system, but we’re now trialling the removal of the booking system. In December, we needed to remove the bookings while some system upgrades were taking place which made us consider the removal.

We’re trialling the removal of the booking system from Thursday 24 April, initially for four weeks but this may be extended based on your feedback and experience.

What happens when I turn up?

You will no longer need to book to enter or exit the gym on Thursday 24 April. Simply scan your membership card, wristband, sticker or use the app scanner to enter and exit the facilities from this date onwards.

You will still need to have a valid membership to enter - access will be denied if you have an expired membership or if there are debts on your account related to no-show charges. Pay-as-you-go users will need to purchase a day pass at reception, at which point you’ll be supplied with a barcode that can be used for entry.

What happens if the gym is full?

We have a capacity in the gym - this is to both create a comfortable training environment and also for safety reasons such as fire escape capacity, risks and hazards created by the sheer amount of people in it. If the gym reaches capacity, staff will prevent access and we will move to a one-in-one-out system. You will need to wait until our staff members let you know it’s ok to enter the gym.

Please be respectful to our staff during this process - they want to get you in as quickly as possible but also need to ensure the safety of users. As per our terms and conditions, your membership does not guarantee access to our facilities and services but is based on availability. We would like to remind you of the UOP Sport Charter and encourage you to ensure behaviours are aligned with this.

How can I find out how many people are in the gym?

We’re working on a digital solution for you to see how many gym users are in the gym before you arrive. This may not be ready for the time the change comes into place - we will display on our screens across the building the common hours that the gym is busy. Google can also be used to show how busy the facility is with a live tracker - but this is based on individual user location data and may not be accurate. We will update members via email when a solution is found.

How can I provide feedback?

We will ask for feedback during the trial period and would love for you to share your thoughts.
