Serena Vincent Crowned British Indoor Shot Put Champion and Heads to European Championships
Serena Vincent has hit a major milestone in her career! She recently claimed her first-ever British Indoor Shot Put title at the 2025 British Indoor Athletics Championship with an impressive throw of 16.89m. This massive achievement was followed by another great achievement, when she secured a place on the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, from 6-9 March 2025.

Serena’s journey to success has been nothing short of inspiring. As a former sports scholar with us from 2020 to 2023 while studying Geography, she dominated university athletics, winning the BUCS Indoor and Outdoor Shot Put titles two years in a row and setting personal bests along the way. Her hard work and dedication have now taken her to the international stage, where she’ll compete against Europe’s best.
Reflecting on her latest victory, Serena said:
“I’m absolutely buzzing to have won my first British title, and I can’t wait to go for the outdoor title later this year. But more than anything, I’m so excited to compete at the European Indoors and really show what I can do!”
Serena’s road to success hasn’t always been easy. Early in her career, she faced doubts from coaches and officials who thought she wasn’t the right build for the shot put. But she proved them all wrong, letting her performances do the talking. One of her proudest moments was making history by winning Britain’s first-ever U23 Women’s Shot Put gold at the European Throwing Cup, followed by a silver at the U23 European Championships.
Her shot put journey started almost by accident—she was originally a cross-country runner, but after joining Portsmouth Athletics Club, thanks to a nudge from her school librarian, she found her passion for throwing. Since then, she’s never looked back, overcoming injuries and challenges with pure determination.
Serena isn’t stopping here. She’s aiming to throw over 18m, become the UK’s No. 1, and break a British Shot Put record set by her own coach more than 40 years ago. She also has her sights set on competing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
As Serena gets ready to compete on the European stage, she has the full support of her coaches, us - her former university, and fans who have followed her incredible journey. With her determination and record-breaking performances, there’s no doubt she’s on track for even bigger things.
Huge congratulations to Serena—we can’t wait to see what’s next!
