Your Sport, Your Welfare

Your wellbeing matters to us

Throughout your time at the University of Portsmouth, there is always a helping hand ready for you. The Department of Sport and Recreation, deliver sport, health and fitness to you, our students. Sport and Recreation looks after 34 sports clubs, collectively known as Team UOP. Across everything we do, we deeply care about your wellbeing, particularly within Team UOP.

We understand that at times, unique situations can arise and we want you to feel confident that we're here to stand by you and support your welfare every step of the way. If you’re able to, we want to provide sources to give you the tools to help yourself too.

Within each Team UoP sports club committee, there's a friendly face designated as the student welfare point of contact. This could be your Welfare Secretary or Vice President, a person you can comfortably turn to if you're facing challenges, seeking guidance or simply need someone to talk to.

Not only is support available within your club, but our Sport and Recreation team also consists of trained staff dedicated to welfare and safeguarding for Team UoP clubs. They work closely with the Team UoP committee members, offering valuable advice, support, and connections to professional resources, including the University's Student Wellbeing Service. Your well-being matters to us, and we're committed to ensuring you have the support you need.

Supporting your wellbeing

In many ways, mental health is just like physical health: everybody has it and we need to take care of it. Good mental health means being generally able to think, feel and react in the ways that you need and want to live your life. But if you go through a period of poor mental health you might find the ways you're frequently thinking, feeling or reacting become difficult, or even impossible, to cope with. This can feel just as bad as a physical illness, or even worse.

The Mind website explains what mental health problems are, what may cause them, and the many different kinds of help, treatment and support that are available.
