The Reverse Advent Challenge is back for 2019. We're steamrolling into December and with Christmas on the horizon we turn to thoughts of friends, family and loved ones. Together with UOP Global and partners across the city, we want to make a difference to people who face winter alone, on the streets or have to make the choice between heating and eating at this time of year. Winter is a really tough time for people living in poverty.
So here is where we need your help. We have a box behind reception in St. Paul's Gym and Spinnaker Sports Centre. Instead of opening a door to a chocolate calendar in the run up to Christmas, give a little something to the box. We're collecting donations until 12pm on Friday 13 December.
Celebrate the meaning of the festive season by giving instead of receiving, many people will be alone this Christmas and would really appreciate a little something. The items donated will be taken to the UOP Global office on 13 December. These items will then be distributed to those in need across our city in time for Christmas and the cold months of January and February.
This year our donations will go to the homeless charity ReFIt who support the homeless and those in recovery. ReFIt specifically encourages sports participation which then leads to volunteering, education and ultimately employment. Graduates from the programme are now involved in its delivery as well as running other projects within the charity.
Our donations this year will also support the British Red Cross in Portsmouth supporting their 'Home from hospital service' and their refugee support services. Donations of basic food, toiletries and Christmassy foods will be very helpful to both these services. Clean under garments, warm outer gear would be also very welcome.
