Swimming jobs

We’re looking for a number of swimming instructors to join our team to support the launch of our swimming pool and swimming lessons. We have a range of roles available from a set number of hours per week, to more casual roles with flexible hours.

UOP Sport is opening Ravelin Sports Centre in December and the new University of Portsmouth Swim Academy is being launched in January 2022. We aim to provide a high quality Learn to Swim programme for the Portsmouth community. Lessons will be available for children from aged 4, and of varying abilities. The ratio of swimmers to teacher will be as low as 3:1 in beginner groups and up to a maximum of 8:1 in the more advanced groups. We’re looking to provide a quality teaching experience in our brand new pool. Our 8 lane 25m pool has a moveable floor that raises 4 lanes the length of the pool which means no deep end of the pool for those learning to swim.

Teaching swimming and working with children requires you to be energetic, enthusiastic and imaginative, creating a love for swimming in each one of our swimmers, even if you are having a bad day. You must be reliable, hardworking and pro-active and be willing to work both independently and as part of a team that is growing to over 70 employees.

Swimming instructor work schedule

• Tuesday and Thursday late afternoon/early evening
• Saturday and Sunday mornings

Assistant Swimming Instructor x4

£10 per hour; 13-20 hours per week; 50 weeks per year

Casual Swimming Instructor (multiple)

£21 per hour; various hours available to cover sickness, holiday crash courses and school swimming lessons
